Leadership is not about me. It should ultimately be about others – about you.
Writing this blog should not be about what I get out of it, but it should be passing on what I have learned and received to you, so that you gain and grow.
It is a constant challenge to all true leaders to keep humble, and to check the true motive of their hearts. Everyone’s talking about “servant leadership” – serving others while in a leadership role. No-one talks about it better than Colleen Barrett from SouthWest Airlines. Take a look a this post/video from Eva Rykr.
So, servant leadership – always puts others first. Does this way of leading work with you or do you have a different view of leadership.

Hi Kate
I would phrase it differently but the outcome would be the same. I believe in selfishness. I believe in doing for others and a life of service because it is so fulfilling and such emotionally rewarding work. So I really do it for myself and the benefit for society and others is a fortunate by-product. And to me leadership is the ultimate high because you are so much more effective in doing for others. If others aren’t benefiting from your leadership then it’s a joyless pursuit of poorly understood goals.

Hi Riley
There’s a lot of truth in what you have said. May you never loose the love of “doing for others.”
