Ready for Action?

African Wisdom Quote of the Day

“Every day in Africa a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows that it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.
It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle.
When the sun comes up, you better be running.” Abe Gubegna, Ethiopia

Are you ready to take action?  What are your challenges today and have you prepared for them?  Or do you go into situations and just “wing it”?

Preparation is a key ingredient to living and working.  Let’s just think about it:-

Have you planned what you are going to eat tonight?  Do you have the right ingredients?  Do you need to go to the grocery store to get more?  Do you have the recipe?  You won’t eat well, if you haven’t planned in advance what you need and how to cook it.

Do you want to go to university?  Have you checked out what skills and subject grades you need to get into university?  If you don’t have the required entry criteria, you won’t get in.  Therefore, preparation and purposeful planning are essential to you being accepted.

I know what it is to fall flat on my face because I didn’t prepare, became complacent, and thought my experience would see me through.  I’ve done it several times at interviews, and at business meetings.  I did not have the necessary information to hand and the result was me feeling incredibly stupid, and of no value.  I can’t speak about how my colleagues felt about me – that’s their story.

Today, there are still days when I feel over-confident and don’t prepare.  However, those are becoming fewer.  So, most days, I wake up and I am ready to ‘run’.  What about you?
