Time and timing are so important to us. We often don’t think we have enough time – we are so busy rushing about that even thinking about taking time to stop and rest elicits the response “I don’t have enough time!”
And then there’s getting the timing right. When do companies launch their latest product? When do stock brokers or investors buy or sell shares or commodities? Get the timing right and the future looks good. Get the timing wrong…..
I also think that we can live too much in the past. Yes, it’s OK to remember the past; the mistakes we may have made and the lessons learned from them; the memories of family and friends – whether still with us or not. I find myself looking back at companies I worked for and longing for those times again because they were good times, especially if business was good. But we can become depressed if we want the “good old days”.
And we can also be too keen to look forward, and fantasize about the future, maybe even day-dream about it. We can get very enthusiastic about it or we get so worried we make ourselves ill.
The only time we need to really concentrate on is now. Right now. Today. The present.
It’s the place where we currently live. We’ve lived the past. We can’t yet live the future, but we can live now. And we can make it fulfilling.
In the now, you have an opportunity to work towards your future. You can better yourself now and make choices that will affect your journey. You can take pleasure in what there is around you now and enjoy it for what it is. You can choose to be grateful for what you have rather than what you don’t (or did have in the past, or want for the future). You will never have another day like today ever again. Make it yours. Your time is now.
What are you doing now to make your future?
